Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport has handled two million passengers and created 6,000 direct jobs, Angolan President João Lourenço said in his State of the Nation address on 15 October 2026. The airport’s cargo terminal had recorded 916 movements involving 33 operators and handled approximately 28,000 tonnes of cargo.

Lourenço described a phased start to operations at the airport, beginning with cargo and culminating in the full transfer of all airlines. He also reported the completion of six certifications, which he said reinforced compliance with international standards and the airport’s recognition within the international aviation community.
