Libya’s Airports Authority has welcomed a decision by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to cancel the aviation safety warnings for Libyan airspace issued in 2013 and 2015, after more than ten years in force.
The decision is a national achievement that restores Libyan airspace to its place on the international air navigation map. It is the result of government efforts and coordination with international organisations to strengthen aviation safety and security standards, alongside the development of airport infrastructure and the modernisation of navigation systems.
The transport Minister has announced the launch of a programme to promote Libyan airspace to international airlines, with the aim of encouraging them to resume direct flights to Libya and to make use of the air corridor linking Europe and Africa.
The Authority said it will continue working with the relevant international bodies to complete the lifting of the remaining restrictions on Libyan airlines, at the start of a new phase for developing the civil aviation sector and restoring Libya’s regional and international role in air transport.
