According to the authorities, heavy rain and flooding has led to the deaths of 174 people (as of 19 Dec) and displaced 546,000 who are now living in 180 camps for internally displaced persons. Garissa, Mandera, Tana River and Wajir counties are most affected by flooding. WFP is supporting the government’s El-Nino flood response by providing critical logistics services. WFP has deployed a Mi8 helicopter capable of ferrying 2.5-3mt of cargo or 18-20 passengers, 6x6 trucks that can haul 15mt, 4x4 trucks as well ordinary trucks to assist the national and county governments for the last mile delivery of food, medicines and other non-food items.
