Phase 2 of the construction and modernisation of Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport has taken an important step forward with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Guinean State, represented by the General Directorate of the Guinea Airport Management Company (SOGEAG), and the Turkish partners of Albayrak.

The agreement, signed on 9 December 2025, establishes the framework for collaboration and outlines the approach to mobilising the funding required to implement this major phase of the project.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance under the auspices of Minister Mourana Soumah. The Director General of SOGEAG, Oumar Said Koulibaly, signed on behalf of the Guinean State, while the Director of the Tourism division of the Albayrak Group, Yunus Yilmaz, represented the Turkish partners.

Phase 2 of the Public-Private Partnership includes the construction of a new terminal, the reinforcement and widening of the existing runway, the development of a new modern control tower and the addition of a two-level parking garage. These investments will expand the airport’s capacity to 3 million passengers per year.

Albayrak welcomed the signing, noting that it enables progress in the fundraising process and supports the continuation of work on the construction site to maintain momentum toward contractual deadlines.

Minister Soumah praised the Guinean-Turkish partnership and highlighted the commitment and determination of the Albayrak Group in advancing a project considered important to the Head of State, President Mamadi Doumbouya. He emphasised that the modernisation of Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport is a major structuring initiative that will open Guinea to the world in terms of connectivity and visibility. The project is also aligned with the Simandou 2040 programme and is positioned to support broader socio-economic development and investment opportunities.

The memorandum of understanding will be followed by a financing agreement, which will be signed once the fundraising process has been completed.
