On 25 July, the Ministry of Transport presented the main structural projects it is implementing under Wave 1 of Pillar 3 of the Simandou 2040 Programme. The initiative forms part of the socio-economic transformation vision led by His Excellency Mamadi Doumbouya, President of the Republic and Head of State.
During the presentation, ministry officials reiterated that the development of transport infrastructure is a strategic lever for improving mobility, stimulating trade and supporting the country’s economic growth.
The event highlighted progress in the aviation sector, including the expansion and modernisation of Conakry’s Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport. The airport’s annual capacity is expected to increase from 500,000 to three million passengers.
Updates were also presented on the construction of the Kankan, Labé and Beyla airports, as well as feasibility studies for airports in Faranah and Nzérékoré. These projects are intended to improve Guinea’s national and international connectivity.
The authorities also outlined measures being implemented to modernise land transport. These include the rehabilitation of bus shelters and the Matoto bus depot, the planned introduction of 50 public transport buses, and the launch of a programme for 300 ride-hailing taxis, with an initial fleet of 50 vehicles already available.
Other priorities include the construction of eight bus stations and the development of the rail network, including the Kaloum–Kouria, Kouria–Moribaya and Kankan–Kérouané lines.
The Ministry of Transport also presented its planned investments in the maritime and logistics sectors. These include the construction of the Kagbélen dry port, the acquisition of new cargo-handling equipment, and the development of the Dobali industrial and port complex and the Benty logistics centre.
Through these initiatives, the Ministry intends to modernise Guinea’s national infrastructure, strengthen the competitiveness of the economy and support the objectives of the Simandou 2040 Programme.
By incorporating these projects into the Simandou 2040 Programme, the Ministry of Transport is translating into practical action the vision of His Excellency Mamadi Doumbouya, President of the Republic and Head of State, for a modern, connected and competitive Guinea.
The modernisation of transport infrastructure is intended to strengthen national integration, support economic growth and sustainably improve living conditions for the country’s population.
Through Wave 1 of Pillar 3 of Simandou 2040, the Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Guinea’s structural transformation through major investment and results-oriented governance. This programme reflects the Government’s objective of establishing the foundations for sustainable prosperity for the benefit of all Guineans.
