Guinea and Türkiye are exploring expanded cooperation across the transport sector, including air connectivity, following talks between Guinean Transport Minister Ousmane Gaoual Diallo and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Guinea, Cem Örnekol, in Conakry on 15 September.
According to Guinea’s Ministry of Transport, discussions covered opportunities to strengthen cooperation in air, rail, road and urban transport, as well as potential Turkish private-sector participation in future infrastructure projects.
Örnekol said Türkiye was interested in improving connectivity between the two countries and supporting Guinea’s efforts to modernise its transport infrastructure.
“We wish to strengthen connectivity between our two countries in the areas of land, rail and air transport, as well as in urban mobility,” he said.
The ambassador also indicated that Türkiye could facilitate contact between the Guinean authorities and Turkish companies interested in participating in major transport projects.
Diallo highlighted Guinea’s plans to improve regional connectivity, including proposed maritime services linking Conakry with Freetown in Sierra Leone and Bissau in Guinea-Bissau. He also drew attention to Guinea’s longer-term railway development programme, which envisages the construction of approximately 2,600 km of railway lines over the next 15 years.
The two sides agreed to continue discussions aimed at identifying potential cooperation and investment mechanisms.
The Guinean ministry said Örnekol also used the meeting to seek Guinea’s support for Türkiye’s candidacy in connection with an ICAO meeting scheduled to take place in Canada in November.
