The Parliament of Sierra Leone has ratified an amendment to Article 10(4) of the Constitution of the African Civil Aviation Commission, marking a step toward strengthening the country’s transport and aviation framework.
The decision was taken during a sitting in Freetown on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. The amendment, originally adopted at the 28th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa on 31 January 2017, aims to improve efficiency and coordination within Africa’s civil aviation sector.
Presenting the agreement to Parliament, Minister of Transport and Aviation, Alhaji Fanday Turay, described the ratification as a significant move toward expanding Sierra Leone’s transportation infrastructure. He noted that the amendment would support the establishment of mechanisms to enhance operational efficiency and promote the development of the sector both domestically and internationally.
The agreement positions Sierra Leone to better align with international best practices.
